- modeling and actively mentoring young children in nature connection
- looking after the health and safety of the group
- assisting in setting up activities and tending supplies
- communicating clearly with colleagues
- offering support to the teacher in their role
- supporting other class groups as a substitute when needed
- Monday-Friday
- 8:15 to 1:30
- With an additional once weekly hour long staff meeting
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Assistant Teacher must have at least one of the following educational requirements met:
- 6 units of concurrent enrollment or completed in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or equivalent field courses
- Have completed a minimum of level one Forest School teacher training
- Comparable recognized teacher training
- 1 or more years working with groups of children ages 2-6
Additional Requirements
- Basic pediatric CPR & First Aid training
- Ability to pass background check and fingerprint clearance
- Ability to lift 40lbs, navigate uneven terrain and sit comfortably on the ground
- Experience and comfort in natural environments
- Comfortable and enthusiasm for
- sitting on the ground,
- getting dirty,
- being out in all weather conditions,
- touching and holding the creepy, crawly critters
- moving through a variety of terrains
- singing (comfort singing with children, professional singing not necessary)
- have reliable transportation
- interested in further growth in naturalist studies and mentoring
- a nurturing, loving, and creative, and playful attitude
- dedicated to developmentally appropriate practice and aware of developmental needs of young children
- observant
Qualities, Characteristics, and skills of the ideal candidate
- Training and experience in early childhood development and education
- Experience with outdoor/nature based mentoring
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna
- Familiarity and/or experience with Waldorf education
- Experience with traditional/ancient skills.
- Strongly favored: Naturalist skills and knowledge; Lifeways Training; Waldorf Teacher Training; Reggio Emilia Study Trip/Experience; Certified Forest School Teacher; Experience in story telling; Play a musical instrument and/or sing,
