Steven's Park
sits along San Roque Creek, a seasonal creek that runs through San Roque Canyon.  Meandering up the trail from the oak and sycamore lined park below, we travel through California Bay, Elderberry, and Toyon,
to a grove of ancient oaks and sycamores surrounding a small meadow, where the Chumash (first people of this land) gathered long before the arrival of Europeans. North of this upper meadow we find outcroppings of sandstone with deep, funnel-shaped mortars used by the Chumash to process their acorns alongside the creek. Steven's Park offers a variety of native plants to learn and work with, excellent creek bed tracking, and the wonder of a seasonally changing landscape.
